HTTP stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol, and is the protocol that allows web surfers to communicate with and visit websites. HTTPS stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure. This means that the information that goes over the Internet between the site and the user is encrypted and is therefore safer. Because of the encryption, many sites that require secure information, such as financial information, have HTTPS sites. Companies that are going to have online stores or that need to request personal information may find that the HTTPS sites are the better option.
